Citizens pool in to install four CCTV cameras in Kothrud colony
Residents of Modern Colony in Kishkindhnagar in Kothrud found a solution to their problems when no help was forthcoming. After eight two-wheelers parked along the road were torched on April 6, the residents approached some local leaders for the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to keep watch. When their request was turned down, the residents pooled in and installed CCTV cameras. Now, almost all the 500 houses in Modern Colony are under electronic surveillance with four high-resolution CCTV cameras. The effort was undertaken by Navnath Sarvajnik Vikas Mandal Trust in Kishkindhanagar. The torched vehicles were valued at Rs 4 lakh. Their owners are labourers and except for a new scooter, the other seven were not insured. The residents park along the lane as they have no parking arrangement. The Kothrud police are clueless about the suspects. The mandal’s president Ravindra Kondhekar told TOI it was the first arson case in the colony. “The attack shocked us all. It also created panic among the residents,” he added. After the arson attack, the Ganesh mandal’s members met and decided to instal CCTV cameras so that the miscreants repeat their act. They approached local leaders and the corporators, but none came […]

Drinking Water Crisis: Yere Yere Pausa – Tula Deto Paisa – Paus Ala Chota Tras Zhala Motha
Just read this TOI article on the water challenge we are likely to have in the future (By 2050, you may have to live on imported water http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/By-2050-you-may-have-to-live-on-imported-water/articleshow/51935321.cms via @timesofindia) Going by my favourite childhood marathi rhyme, every rainy season i still hum “Yere Yere Pausa, Tula Deto Paisa, Paus Ala Motha, Paisa Zhala Khota”. Translate this to English for my non-maharashtrian buddies, it says “Rain Rain pls come down, I will give you money, it Rains Cats and Dogs and Lord Indra gets fake money. Now pulling pranks on Rain God should not be anyone’s dream as he is certainly the “Numero Uno” deity prayed during Water crisis. However, in recent years Lord Indra seems to sing back to us it this way: Yere Yere Pausa – Tula Deto Paisa – Paus Ala Chota ani Tras Zhala Motha (meaning: Rain Rain pls come down, i will give you money, rains come in ultra small quota and this creates a big trouble life for us all). Coming to the reality, given all the advances in this world, neighboring nations who can teach us, do we really need to repeat the age old jingle year after year and upon failing blame […]
FTII to create ‘mini film city’ at its Kothrud campus for students
The sets may include places such as a hospital, railway station, a middle-class home, temple and a ruined house, for which students have to hunt and spend time to get the required permissions, or are frequently created at the institute. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) will erect permanent sets of locations frequently required in film shoots, on the lines of a film city, at its Kothrud campus. The proposal was recently approved by the Governing Council of the institute headed by Gajendra Chauhan. The institute has a 36 acre land plot near the Doordarshan studio in Kothrud which is now being developed to meet the growing needs of the institute. “An in-principle approval to the proposal to develop such locations was given by the first Governing Council meeting held on January 7 this year, which was headed by the new chairman, Gajendra Chauhan. At the same time, the proposal to prepare a detailed plan for the construction of the two indoor studios at the new campus has also been approved. The proposal will then be placed before the Academic Council along with the estimated cost of the project,” said UC Bodake, Registrar. The sets may include places […]
